National Initiative Fund (NIF)

NIF supports all legislative, state medical board and advocacy outreach on both state and federal levels. Because of these funds, ABPS boards of certification have become more recognized as part of the national standard in physician specialty board certification throughout the medical community, as well as, the federal and state government.

NIF at Work

Your NIF support funded outreach efforts to key stakeholders that has changed bylaws in hospitals and gain recognition with managed care organizations. The Department of Labor has now defined Physician Board Certification to include ABPS, along with ABMS and AOA in their Occupational Outlook Handbook. In addition, federal programs such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Veterans Health Administration and United States Armed Forces under the GI Bill have updated their own definitions to recognize ABPS boards of certification. 

Various state legislatures and medical boards have also completed their due diligence and retain strict language that accepts and recognizes ABPS as a certifying board that meets the high standards of certification they require. ABPS is recognized by a majority of the state medical boards that have specific advertising rules. Further, ABPS is recognized and listed on HealthGrades -- America’s leading online physician resource for consumers.

National Initiative Fund
The National Initiative Fund (NIF) focuses solely on acceptance of board certification by ABPS Member Boards and is funded solely by Diplomates and Members. Contributions made to NIF may be tax deductible under Section 162 of the IRS code as an ordinary business expense. Please consult your tax advisor for specific information on the deductibility of such payments.
